Call for Papers: 18th International Asian Urbanization Conference (IAUC)

2026-05-06

Theme: Resilient Futures: Urbanization, Climate Change, and Sustainable Development Policy in a Changing World
Dates: 4-8 August 2026
Host Institution: Sindhu Central University (SCU), Leh, Ladakh, India

Overview

Urbanization and climate change are among the most pressing challenges of the 21st century. Cities are at the forefront of environmental, social, and economic transformations, confronting intensifying climate risks, resource constraints, and uneven patterns of growth.

The 18th IAUC invites scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to engage in interdisciplinary dialogue on strategies for building urban resilience and advancing sustainable development in a rapidly changing world.

Situated at approximately 3,520 meters (11,500 feet) above mean sea level, Leh, Ladakh offers a distinctive setting as a “living laboratory.” As a fragile mountain ecosystem experiencing glacial retreat, water stress, and tourism pressures, it provides a compelling context for examining sustainability, heritage conservation, and climate adaptation in high-altitude environments.

Key Sub-Themes and Topics

We welcome submissions that incorporate theoretical insights, empirical research, comparative perspectives, and policy-oriented approaches. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Climate change adaptation and urban resilience
  • Sustainable development policy and implementation
  • Fragile mountain ecosystems and glacial retreat
  • Water scarcity and resource management
  • Heritage conservation and sustainable tourism
